AshleyMIntroducing, the LoneStar Coaching Family

Ashley McGuire

Hello! My name is Ashley McGuire and this is my second season to be coaching for LoneStar.  I was born and raised in Plano, TX and currently live in McKinney. I was first introduced to volleyball through an annual family reunion tradition of a week long beach volleyball showdown. I was so impressed with the game that I knew this was the sport I truly wanted to commit to playing.

I have been playing volleyball for 15 years, training in many different volleyball programs with opportunities to play for some great coaches. In high school, I was the captain of our Varsity Volleyball team and took our team to two consecutive All-State Championships. I also played for Dallas Summit Volleyball Club. There have been many camps and training programs I have participated in throughout my playing career, including the opportunity to play at the collegiate level. I attended The University of Texas at Tyler where I was able to continue playing the sport that I love. I graduated in 2007 with a degree in History.

I would have to say that one of my favorite volleyball memories was during a crucial regional qualifying match. One of my teammates made a great effort to dig, but shanked the ball across the court. I ran towards the ball, dove to make the save and hit my head on the concrete wall. I knocked myself out for a good few minutes and when I woke up, I found out we won the point! The reason I’m so fond of this memory is not the headache I had the rest of the day, but the feeling of accomplishment you get after working so hard as a team.

I got involved with LoneStar through a random run in with Arneva, the Executive Director. I am the Office Manager for OASIS, an orthopedic and sports injury office in Frisco and she happened to come in my office on a day I was filling in for one of my clinical staff. I also had just recently broken my finger in a volleyball game, so was also in a cast. We began talking about my cast and how I got injured and her eyes lit up when I mentioned volleyball. She gave me her card and asked me to think about becoming a part of the LoneStar program. I began coaching a couple months later, taking a Competitive Youth League team and assisting with a Select team. That fall, I was brought on as the head coach for one of the 13’s Regional Club teams.

The LoneStar Volleyball program is one that has become very dear to my heart. What initially appealed so much to me was how involved LoneStar is with the families and community in Frisco. What helps make a good club is good people and LoneStar has those good families, players and coaches. At LoneStar you are not just another athlete, you become part of the LoneStar family. I can truly say that I cannot wait to announce my 2011-2012 club assignment!
